Tigers vs longhorns in CWS Finals! (No, that's not a misprint- I refuse to equate LSU's opponents with our Tigers.) Tonight at 6 PM begins the best-of-3 series for the College World Series where a National Championship will be determined. Will it be texas, the NCAA No. 1 seed, or our LSU Tigers, the No. 1 ranked team in the country in both polls? One of those polls is voted by the coaches themselves and I've always subscribed to their knowing talent better than those in the cubicles at NCAA headquaters.
Saturday evening at 6 PM starts the long awaited final leg to the College World Series Championship and another National Championship for our LSU Tigers! What makes this game at our 'summer home away from home,' Omaha, NE, even more enticing is that the coach for Virginia was the pitching coach for Paul Mainieri while at Notre Dame. So we have the teacher vs the pupil and a seasoned CWS squad vs an inexperienced CWS squad. All the possibilities setting up a major upset.
Friday night at 6 PM, our LSU Tigers start the second leg of the Road to Omaha. With the regional championship under their belts, they entertain the Rice Owls at Alex Box Stadium in one of the 8 Super Regionals being played this weekend. While the success of LSU over Rice in regional play has not been stellar, this year's match up seems to favor the Tigers. It'll take a super effort to reach the third and final leg to our June "home away from home," Omaha, and you can help us pull them through to victory.
After dropping the first game in the recently concluded SEC Baseball Tournament (as did all of the top 4 seeds,) our LSU Tigers roared back to win the next 5 and added the Tournament Championship to the regular season championship as well. One of the perks of this victory is being named one of the 16 regional host sites and assuredly one of the 8 Super Regional sites based on RPI rating. Early next week we could be named the no. 1 team in the nation and later today, the other 3 teams to play in Alex Box will be named as well. Once we determine how the Regionals and Super Regionals will be shown on tv, we'll send a special blast out later this week announcing dates and times to be shown at Fox & Hound and Sherlock's. Be looking for it!
Thanks to you, we had another banner year! Each year as we begin our new year on May 1st, the opportunity to reflect back on the growth and progress of our Dallas chapter gives us time to appreciate the support and hard work that you, our fellow alumni, have put into making this past year one of the most memorable.
