Cotton Bowl Wrap Up
How ‘bout dem Tigers !!! We can only hope that the complete Tiger team that demolished A&M in the Cotton Bowl is indicative of what we have to look forward to next fall. 11-2 is nothing to sneeze at in the SEC and if Auburn can complete the BCS Championship, we’ll personify the excellence that the SEC commands, especially the Western Conference. With a list of top 10 recruiting classes including this year’s, the bar has been raised for a continuation of excellence at LSU.
The bar has been raised. 2010 was the most successful in our chapter’s history in a number of ways. From the 156 members in 2006, we ended the year with just over 600 paid members. These memberships helped us to contribute over $10,000 to LSUAA Scholarships for DFW students and earned our chapter the Purple & Gold Award for Philanthropy from LSUAA. You also helped us to contribute over $13,000 from the Crawfish Boil for scholarships.
The number of students from the DFW area continues to climb and the honors that are being earned by them at LSU indicate that we are attracting more of the brightest students to our campus. Your help in HS recruiting has been a major factor in that success. Watch for the listings of locations in the fall where you can help our Scholarship Chair, Linda Young, to increase that number even more. But with the increase in out of state students comes a need for more scholarships. And you can contribute on our website throughout the year with your tax deductible contributions to our 501©3 organization.
Just as the 2008 LSU Specialty Plates campaign attracted alums and fans to our Dallas chapter and our website, the recent Cotton Bowl did likewise. The MOST IMPORTANT DATE for your calendar is Saturday, September 3rd as our Tigers will play Oregon in Cowboys Stadium. As information becomes available, it will be posted on our website so stay tuned. And a special thanks to all who gave of their time and energy to see that the DFW chapters had such a successful hosting of our Cotton Bowl activities.
Our Board meets the first Wednesday of every month at 6:30pm at the Hilton Lincoln Center on 635 & the Tollway. With the retirement and relocation of several Board members, we welcome all who would like to serve on our Board as well as participate in planning activities to join us at that time. What YOU put into your membership determines what you get out of it and serving on the Board, which requires all of 2-3 hours per month, is the most satisfying of all. So join us and let your voice and suggestions be heard.
Thanks to those members who have joined each of the last four years as you have helped solidify the Dallas Chapter as one of if not the largest chapter outside the State of Louisiana. If you have been a former active member but have not renewed, now is the time to come home! If you’re contemplating joining our chapter, click on the website and choose the membership link. Your participation will create a vast number of friendships here in the DFW area who share your passion for LSU. You’ll never regret it! If you’ve been wanting to give back to LSU, your membership is a perfect starting point.
Here’s to a GREAT year in 2011. Come along for the ride with us! Geaux Tigers!
