July Membership Update
Thursday 's July Happy Hour at Fox & Hound and what does the number 212 mean? Our second summer Happy Hour will be held this
coming Thursday, July 15th at Fox & Hound at Midway & George Bush. After a successful June Happy Hour to introduce many to Press Box Grill, we'll be at our North Dallas watch partner, Fox & Hound, at 6 PM. This one will be special as it will be held in conjunction with our monthly SEC mixer as LSU is hosting the July Mixer. Come out and meet other rabid SEC alumni while bringing your LSU alumni friends with you. Let's have a huge showing for the other SEC chapters and show them what true passion is all about!
July has another annual event coming up and you'll want to mark these dates as well. LSU Admission Dept. notified Linda Young, our Scholarship Chair, that 856 DFW students were admitted to LSU as freshmen for this fall. Of which 48% will receive some type of scholarship. Of this number, 212 have registered for summer orientation which is a good indication that they'll be enrolling this fall. Both of these numbers are records for the DFW area. (The 212 are over 1/3 higher than the previous record of 156 in 2008.) Of this number, 5 are Top 100 Scholars and many other will receive full out of state waivers! The quality of our students continues to rise annually. And much is due to the alumni recruiting effort in assisting Linda with High School Recruiting Nights, a schedule of which will be posted on our website in the near future. Linda always appreciates your support of our fall recruitment season.
With this large of number, we have scheduled 2 Freshmen Send Off Parties, 1 in Dallas and 1 in Fort Worth. Mark your calendar for Thursday, July 29th at 7 PM at Sherlock's on Central Expressway & Park Lane in Dallas and Wednesday, Aug. 4th at 7 PM at Fox & Hound at I-20 & Bryant Irvin in Fort Worth. Pick a location & come meet the kids and their parents to share your personal experiences and welcome them to our LSU family. Now's a good time to start building the spirit for this fall.
The number 212 has another meaning at this time as well to the membership department of our Chapter. 212 represents the number of members who have renewed or joined since the beginning of the year. Since we now have a 12 month membership, your membership will now be valid through July of next year for July renewals which also includes the 2011 Crawfish Boil. And now you can invest in either an individual or family membership on our website under membership.
You recall the 5 Top 100 Scholars mentioned above? We are working to complete the 4th scholarship at LSU and of the $40K required, we are only $18K away from endowment. Your membership allows us to invest 80% of your dues to our scholarship funds. And it's pretty obvious that with 5 Top 100 Scholars and almost 4 scholarships, we are having to use someone else's scholarship for our students. So when you think about how you can give back to LSU, start with your Dallas Chapter and let your membership be the first installment of your contribution. Since 1/1, we have donated over $3500 to scholarships from memberships alone. We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to our extended Dallas LSU family.
