LSU Alumni Dallas

Membership Update 9/1/09

The week that we have been chomping at the bit for has finally arrived! And this Saturday night we'll usher in a new season of LSU football with more upside than we've seen in years. With top 5 recruiting classes under his belt for the last several years, Les Miles unfolds his 2009 edition with the Race for the Roses looming. Nothing short of a championship! That's the mantle we're hearing from BR and this year's version promnises to be more explosive and fundamentalkly sound than last year's hiccup.

And you won't want to miss bringing it in with us at our two 2009 LSU Kickoff parties at Fox & Hound and Sherlocks. Get there early for all the drink specials, door prizes, free goodie bags to the first 48 people at Fox & Hound and the first 25 people at Sherlocks, and an all you can eat buffet at Fox & Hound, faeturing Jambalaya from one of our own LSU Alumni!  And while you're thinking about the watch parties - we need help!  A few extra people helping us at each location per game will make it all the more enjoyable for all of us. If 15 alums can volunteer in the first 18 hours of notification of High School Recruiting, we can offer the same kind of assistance to the Board who mans the 2 locations weekly. So contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and let us know which games you can help. Your time involved will be small and your impact will be great!

Are you hungry for some chicken fingers? Raising Cane's has a new location opening on Sept 10th in Plano at Park & Midway.  On the 9th, Cane's will be hosting an LSU Alumni Family & Friends night.  For every Box Combo sold that night, Cane's will donate $1 towards scholarships from our Dallas Chapter, so be sure to load up your family and meet some friends at Cane's and dip your chicken fingers in that famous Cane's Sauce!

Our Texas Tiger Tees have been another favorite for our alumni group and friends.  All 2008 styles are being closed out at $10 each. They are available online can be shipped to you if you cannot make Saturday's watch party. Our new 2009 Texas Tiger Tees will be available this Saturday at each of our watch parties!  With LSU fans wearing gold to the game on Saturday and our 2009 shirts being gold, we are anticipating a large number of our shirts to go at our watch parties this Saturday.  The 2009 t-shirt will be available for sale online next week.  Also a limited number of DFW SEC tees will be avilable at both locations as well. SEC! LSU!  A winning combination.

There are a number of activities that are taking place in Baton Rouge this fall to help build out national Scholarship Funds that you may want to participate in if you are going for a game.  The first is the LSU Soccer team meeting Oklahoma at the LSU Soccer Complex on Friday September 11, 2009 (prior to our opening home game with Vandy next weekend). As the LSU softball team did in the spring, the Susan G Komen Foundation will be the beneficiary of the proceeds from that event. For more information on the Heads Up for the Cure event, click here.  The second is the 14th annual LSU Alumni Celebrity Golf Classic being held at the LSU Golf Course on October 9, 2009 - the weekend of the Florida game! Click here for further details on the Golf Classic.

Thank you to all our volunteers for your willingness to help out with our High School Recruiting efforts.  Our scholarship chairman, Linda Young, has been overwhelmed with responses and couldn't be more appreciative to those willing to help students in the area become more interested in furthering their education at LSU.  Increasing the number of students who get to share the experiences at LSU with us can only be done by sustained recruiting. And as our number of students from DFW increase, so do our need to endow a larger number of Top 100 Scholarships. There are several ways that you can help. First of all, when you make a tax deductible contribution to the LSU Alumni Association, specify that it is to be applied to the Dallas Scholarship Fund. Each time we complete an endowment, we begin another scholarship fund. We have 3 completed and almost 1/4 of the way with our 4th. Secondly, and the easiest way, is to renew your Dallas Chapter membership. Of your $25 dues for both individual or family, we deposit 80% in our LSUAA Scholarship Fund. You can help us endow a new scholarship every 24 months by renewing your dues alone. Click the Membership graphic below to become a member or renew your membership.
