Thanksgiving Weekend
Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving whether you're traveling to be with family or friends this week. The football calendar in Dallas sandwiches around an LSU Alumni Power Hour from Thursday thru Saturday. First, the World Champion Who Dats visit our Cowboys on Thursday at 3:15 PM and all of our watch party locations will be showing the game. Come out even if you have divided loyalty as many of us do!
Follow that up with an LSU Alumni Power Hour and After Party at Opus Lounge, 2200 Main St in Dallas, from 7-9 PM on Friday Night. Attend the happy hour hosted by LSU Alumni Marcus Spears and Ivory Tabb with free admission till 9 PM. After party admission is $20 with LSU Dallas memberships getting half price. Designed for those who attended LSU or feel the passion of being a Tiger, music will be provided by a favorite of our Dallas Chapter, Big Daddie, who rocks the pavilion at our Crawfish Boil. Saturday is the mother of all games for this LSU football season. Arkansas plays host to our LSU Tigers with a 2:30 PM kickoff and they'd love nothing better than to reclaim the Golden Boot and knock us out of a BCS Bowl bid. The ultimate pinnacle of the 2010 season is but one game away. And as underdogs, we have played our best ball of the year so far. Let's not let up now! If you're not in Little Rock at War Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon, then lend your voices at our watch party locations. They're ready for you. Are you ready for them? Don't let us down. Come out and help us while helping yourself.
If you are going to the game, LSU Alumni Association will be holding a Tailgate / Pep-Rally prior to the LSU/Arkansas game, on Saturday, November 27, from 10:00 am - 1:30 pm, at The Little Rock Zoo. The price is $20 per person and $10 for kids. Same as two years ago, the LSU Prep Band will be there and lead us in a short Pep-Rally, we will have "Pulled Pork" catered by Corky's and a cash bar. Not to be outdone, our Dallas Chapter is holding a Black Saturday Sale on Texas Tiger tees. Designed and marketed for scholarship funds, Gold Tiger Tees regularly $16 will be $12. Women's Purple Tees regularly $25 will be $19. Great opportunity to get started with your Christmas gifts for friends alike. But these will only be available at the 5 watch party locations, so come out, help our scholarship campaign and enjoy our 11th win of the season over the razorbacks!
In 2009, our Dallas Chapter contributed $12,500 to scholarships with LSU. In the first 10 months of 2010, we have contributed $25,000 already. We are within $6K of completing our 4th Top 100 Scholarship for DFW students. As of this week, we have 439 active members of our Dallas chapter and 169 of these are new. Each time you join or renew your membership, $20 of an individual membership or $28 of a family membership goes directly to scholarship. Did you know that we spoke of endowing a $40K scholarship every other year and so far we are ahead of that pace? But with the number of LSU alumni who live in the DFW area along with the many thousand fans as well, we should be creating a new scholarship annually!
And that's why at this time of the year when you are making charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations, I hope that you'll add the LSU Dallas Alumni Association to the head of your list. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, you can mail your contributions to our chapter and specify Scholarship and we'll see that it goes to the correct fund at LSUAA and that you receive a tax deductible letter for IRS purposes. While many organizations have seen reduction in members or reduced charitable giving, your chapter has been the model of growth and frugality. By creating more programs and activities, more people have come in contact with our Dallas members who would not otherwise. But we can't do it without your help!
