Upcoming Alumni Activities
501(c)3 Certification and the 2 Freshmen Send Off Parties highlight the next 2 weeks! Did you know that when our Dallas Chapter applied to TDOT for the LSU Specialty Plates, we had to use the National LSU Alumni Association, Baton Rouge non-profit certificate to qualify? And when we told our sponsors we were a non-profit organization, that same certificate was all we could show them. No more! Last weekend, after beginning the Chapter certification process in September of last year, we received word from the IRS that our Dallas Chapter was fully certified as a non-profit organization. Other chapters in Texas have begun the process but we are the only one fully certified at this point. So beginning this year, all contributions made through our Dallas chapter for the LSU Alumni Association is fully tax deductible and documentation will be sent to all donors in January of each year for tax purposes.
Next Thursday, July 29th, we will host the first of 2 Freshmen Send Off Parties at Sherlock's beginning at 7 PM. With the large number of freshmen enrolling this fall, Dallas will host the 1st of 2 on the 29th and Tarrant will host the 2nd on August 4th. Both host locations, Sherlock's and Fox & Hound have been gracious enough to provide the food as well as the location so when you are at each of our watch locations, pass on to them your appreciation for all that they do for us. You'll want to come out at either of the 2 locations to meet our new extended family and share any info with the incoming freshmen or their parents. Let's have a good turnout.
For those who may live more in the mid-cities or in Tarrant County, the 2nd Send Off Party will be Wednesday, August 4th, at Fox & Hound in Fort Worth. Location can be found by clicking on their link on our calendar. The success in our recruiting has been because of the coordination of alumni throughout the DFW area and you'll want to meet and greet as many as possible to see the fruits of your labor.
A quick side note. Mark your calendar for Wednesday, August 11th as we host our 3rd Summer Happy Hour at Sherlock's beginning at 6 PM. This will be our kickoff for the fall football season as the countdown clock will be 24 days exactly at 6 PM , which is the kickoff time for the 1st game on Sept. 4th vs. North Carolina. Want to get in the mood for some football? Come join us at Sherlock's as we stir the competitive juices!
Did you ever wonder how such things as expanding the watch locations from 1 to 3, planning a successful campaign to obtain the first out of state specialty plates in less than 8 months, or donating $18,000 toward a goal of $20,000 in scholarships for 2010 come to pass? It requires volunteers and you can be one of many! And it requires supporting your Dallas chapter with your membership and contributions. If everyone who is receiving our emails or frequents our website would join our chapter, we could establish a Top 100 Scholarship annually!!!
So if you want to give back to LSU a mere portion of what you received while there, your membership is the first and easiest step. You can find out how to do this by using the membership link on our website. Become an active member! Do more than just talk about your support of LSU! We'll help you do it!
