Membership Update - 3/18/09
30 Days to Geaux! That's how many left before we enjoy our 30th Annual Crawfish Boil, the largest and soon to be the best CB we have ever enjoyed. You don't want to miss it! Many tables have been ordered since our last update and we are even to ahead of last year's record turnout. If you haven't done so, please get your orders in on a timely fashion so that we can better prepare in ordering supplies and food.
Our 2 premier sponsors, Capital One and Heineken, have stepped up to the plate again to make this a memorable event and while you're at the CB, take the time to thank the representatives of these and our other sponsors for their dedication and support of LSU. Without them, we couldn't enjoy the success that we have come to know and expect.
On a closer note, tomorrow begins March Madness and guess who's game begins it all? That's right! At 11 AM, our LSU Tigers and Butler start the frantic process of crowning the next National Champion in men's basketball. (Our Lady Tigers begin their quest for a record setting 6th straight Final Four on Sunday, March 22nd against Wisconsin- Green Bay. More info on that telecaast when available.) Both Fox & Hound and Sherlocks will be telecasting the game in it's entirity (CBS will telecast nationally but some stations will be transferring to other games of regional interest) so take a long lunch, leave a bit early and join us at the nearest location to you and let's show our Tiger Pride! The game will be over around 1 PM so you can get back to what you were doing prior to tip off. Then make plans to see the second round on Saturday at the same locations.
LSU athletics has stepped up (both literally and figuratively) in promoting awareness of breast cancer awareness and research toward it's cure with multiple athletic events. First the Lady Tiger basketball game vs. FLA last month to benefit the Susan G Komen Foundation, then the LSU Gymnastic Meet vs. N Carolina St to benefit Bradie James' Foundation56 for Breast Cancer Research honoring his late mother (which he told me netted $50K, an increase over last year's proceeds) and now on Sun., April 5th at 1 PM at the new Softball Diamond on the LSU campus, two ranked SEC teams will battle for conference supremacy and to raise funds for the BR affiliate of the Susan Komen Foundation. If you're in the area, attend and lend your support. We'll have more info on how you can support breast cancer research later this year. With 2 survivors in my own family, I can attest to how vital early detection and treatment is to women of all ages.
To the many of you who have renewed your membership and the 32 new members of our Dallas chapter since Jan. 1st, let me tell you how happy we are to have you as fellow members. Thanks to you and the next 20 memberships that we receive, we'll be able to complete the full endowment of our 3rd LSUAA/LSU Foundation Scholarshps for DFW students. When you purchse your tickets for the CB, think of adding your dues renewal or sending in your new membership at the same time. This is our way of "passing forward" the promise of quality education for DFW students who might not be able to attend LSU without our help.I look forward to telling you in a subsequent update that we are now beginning to endow our 4th Top 100 Scholarship and it's largely because you supported your Dallas chapter!
Cya at the First Round Game tomorrow morning! Geaux Tigers!
