Membership Update - 5/15/09
After dropping the first game in the recently concluded SEC Baseball Tournament (as did all of the top 4 seeds,) our LSU Tigers roared back to win the next 5 and added the Tournament Championship to the regular season championship as well. One of the perks of this victory is being named one of the 16 regional host sites and assuredly one of the 8 Super Regional sites based on RPI rating. Early next week we could be named the no. 1 team in the nation and later today, the other 3 teams to play in Alex Box will be named as well. Once we determine how the Regionals and Super Regionals will be shown on tv, we'll send a special blast out later this week announcing dates and times to be shown at Fox & Hound and Sherlock's. Be looking for it!
Last year our LSU chapter was one of the staunchest supporters of the Dallas Crawfish for the Kids event benefiting Scottish Rites Hospital. Their 2nd Annual event will be held next Saturday, May 30th beginning at 1 PM uptown at The Gingerman Pub, 2718 Boil St (appropriately named, Boil St is west off McKinney between Worthington and Routh Streets.)
For $25 you can enjoy abundant crawfish, beer & music to kick your summer off right encompassing a great time for an equally great cause. One of the committee members remarked, "The success of the 1st Annual Crawfish for the Kids Event was due to the support of your LSU Alumni Chapter. You were the first to arrive and the last to leave!" That about says it all. Let's support them again next Saturday.
TDoT has notified us that as of Monday, May 18th, we have sold 1834 LSU Plates and are within 66 of our 1900 goal. If you've been contemplating purchasing a specialty plate, regular or personalized, you could do both yourself and us a tremendous favor by placing that order during this next week. Your order could help us reach 1900 and obtain a refund of the $8000 deposit placed to allow all of us to receive the LSU plates sooner without having to complete the presale of 1900 plates. Those of us who are sporting our new plates are bursting with pride and you can enjoy the same feeling. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Our thanks to the 168 members of our Dallas Chapter who have supported us with their 2009 dues payments. This is out of our 538 members of which 61 are new members since the beginning of this year. Your $25 dues are an investment in the future of Texas students at LSU as 80% of dues are used to support our Top 100 Scholarships at LSUAA. If you have been a member since 2007 but have not renewed your membership for this year, we encourage you to become an active alum with our ever growing chapter. Your financial support is needed to enable us to reach our goal of a new Top 100 Scholarship ($40,000) every 24 months. And by doing this before football season, you enable us to print and laminate your membership card for greater durability. You can accomplish this on our website, www.lsualumnidallas.com.
Our Texas Tiger Tee Shirts for men and women have been a solid contributor to our scholarship funds. These can be ordered on our website home page and can be shipped to any location across the US. Although the postal system has seen fit to raise postage rates, we have held our current shipping charge. So enjoy the Texas Tees. They are a unique shirt espousing our pride of being Texas Tigers!
In closing, I'd like to pay a special tribute to all of our countrymen and women who have served in our armed forces. The freedoms and liberties that we enjoy daily are a direct result of the toil and sacrifices that so many have paid, some to the utmost. So the next time you see a service personnel or know of a veteran who has served our country, thank them from the bottom of your heart. I just did!
Geaux Tigers!
