LSU Spring 2013 Prospective Student Event

Besides sampling Cajun cuisine (jambalaya, red beans & rice, and gumbo), the students enjoyed mingling with other prospective students and getting the answers to all their questions about admissions, housing, and scholarships. News About LSU Fall 2012 Freshman Class
As far as we know, there are 122 students this year from the DFW area heading to LSU - another great job of recruiting! Of those, 40% received some type of scholarship offer, including 4 Flagship Scholars (ones who score 33-36 on their ACT) who will be receiving $13,000/year. Our Dallas Chapter has established 3 fully endowed $40,000 Flagship scholarships, and as soon as the LSU Alumni Association assigns students to our scholarships, we will announce their names and give you information about them.
There are 21 students from our area who were named Academic Excellence scholars (ones who score 30-32 on their ACT) and they will receive $10,000/year. The remainder of the 40% who were offered scholarships include Tiger Excellence Awards ($5000/year), Music, Tennis and other Departmental scholarships. Should there be any doubt about the caliber of students we have in the DFW area, these stats reinforce why we are about to "crank up" recruiting for next year's class.
Our Dallas chapter has also endowed a $40,000 scholarship in honor of Colonel Fred Burley, and this awards 2 upper-classmen $1000 each/year. As soon as the names of our Burley scholarship recipients are available, we will share information on them.
The goal of our Dallas Legacy Award is to bring the endowment amount to $120,000. This will allow us to carry 4 students at a time all 4 years they are at LSU. THANK YOU to all who have contributed to all our scholarships by attending our annual Crawfish Boil, paying membership dues, and contributing and buying items at the Silent Auction.
WE ARE PROUD OF ALL OUR NEWEST TEXAS TIGERS, and wish them a great first year at LSU!
Meet Our Dallas Legacy Award Recipient

CONGRATULATIONS MANDY !! The first recipient for the LSU Alumni Association Dallas Chapter's newest scholarship is Mandy Morgan, a 2012 Highland Park graduate. Mandy finished her high school career with a 3.5 GPA with studies in advanced placement English, World Georgraphy, Psychology, Creative Writing and History. She was also involved with drill team and many extra curricular activities including volunteering for Highland Park Habitat for Humanity and participating on a medical mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
While at LSU, she plans to pursue a degree in Political Science with a minor in Political Communications. (Is she in for a "treat" when she starts studying Louisiana politics!!) Mandy will be participating in Greek life and will be living in the Humanities and Social Sciences Residential College. She will receive $1500/year for 4 years, and we will be adding another Dallas Legacy recipient each year.
Dallas Legacy Award
The LSU Alumni Association Dallas Chapter, after being fortunate enough to have the Tigers football team play in Dallas twice in 2011, successfully raised $60,000 for scholarships. Pictured at left, presenting the check to Charlie Roberts of the LSU Alumni Association at the Annual Leadership Conference in Baton Rouge, are Board Members Allison Kullenberg and Jennifer Morris.
Our chapter is committed to helping LSU attract top students from the Dallas area. The commitment to raise money for scholarships remains the TOP priority for the chapter. This $60,000 is earmarked for a new scholarship. The Dallas Legacy Award, to be managed by the LSU Alumni Association, will be used to offset the out-of-state costs of tuition for incoming students of chapter members and will be instituted for the Fall of 2012. Thanks to our members, volunteers, friends and vendors for helping us achieve such a significant donation for 2011.
