Scholarship Update

Our Dallas Chapter works tirelessly all during the year raising scholarship money to recruit the best and brightest students from the DFW area who choose to attend LSU.  Meet two of this year's FLAGSHIP (formerly Top 100) Scholars, who along with their parents attended the recent LSU Alumni Association Scholars Banquet held in Baton Rouge on November 10, 2011.  Sarah Goetz and Cole Hassell are pictured with Chancellor Mike Martin and alumni Ron & Linda Young.

Sarah graduated from Ft Worth Country Day High School and lists Mass Communications as her major.  Cole is planning to major in Petroleum Engineering, and he graduated from Grapevine High School.



This past year 25 students from the DFW area were awarded some type of scholarship ranging from $5000 to $13000 per year, depending on GPA and test scores.  The completed LSU admissions application serves as the application for ALL available University scholarships (including the ones awarded by the Dallas Chapter).  No additional applications are necessary.

Congratulations to 2011-12 Scholarship Recipients

Since our Dallas Chapter fully endowed its 3rd $40,000 scholarship this past spring, we are happy to announce this year's recipients:


Sarah has listed her major as Mass Communications.  Cole is planning to major in Petroleum Engineering, and Madison has selected Business Administration as her area of study.

These students will receive $13,000 per year plus the opportunity to earn up to $1550 per year as a Chancellor's Student Aide.

Just to let you know what calibre of students we have in the DFW area, Flagship Scholars must have an ACT score of 33 to 36 or an SAT score of 1440 to 1600 (reading and math sections) and a 3.0 GPA !!

This is one of the reasons we work so hard recruiting and raising scholarship money.  Thanks to all of you who contribute in time and money to help LSU continually recruit the best students possible.

Our 4th $40,000 endowed scholarship (the Burley Scholarship) is awarded annually to upperclassmen who meet our criteria.  Congratulations to these students again this year:

Come experience the Tiger spirit first hand while you learn more about LSU !!  Refreshments will be served and LSU representatives will be available to answer any questions you may have.  Dress is casual, but if you have any purple and gold, we would love to see you in it !!  Plus, just after 8pm there will be a special visit from Mike the Tiger, the Golden Band from Tigerland, and the LSU cheerleaders, who will share a little of the Tiger spirit that will be everwhere before, during, and after the big game.

The Dallas and Tarrant alumni chapters hosted 2 parties for the annual Summer Send Off for the new DFW area students who will be attending LSU this fall.  Approximately 100 students, parents, and LSU Alumni gathered at Sherlock's Restaurant in Dallas on July 20 and at Humperdink's Restaurant in Arlington on August 9 to meet, greet, and eat.  The kids got the opportunity to meet other students from the area before heading to Tiger Country, and the parents got the chance to visit with area alumni and get information on chapter activities.  As the students left, they were given LSU t-shirts, Texas Tiger buttons and gift cards from Raising Cane's.

This is the 22nd year we have hosted this event, and it looks like we will be sending another outstanding group of students to Baton Rouge.  Thanks again to our sponsors:  Sherlock's, Humperdink's, and Raising Cane's.
